Baldiness

Profits and Pharmaceuticals

by Bald Man on July 12th, 2006

Perspective. So much in life hangs on perspective. So many troubles rise out of a skewed perspective. Every now and again, I feel compelled to issue a reminder: Baldness, no matter it’s cause or it extent, is not the end of the world.

I invite you to read the following article at Agora Vox. It asks serious questions about the western, profit-driven pharmaceutical industry, questions of morality and justice. The facts are startling. The questions are worthy of your consideration.

I’m of the opinion that the present system is broken. The profit motive doesn’t work. It neglects the multitudes who need help but cannot contribute to the company’s bottom line. If you disagree, leave a comment… after reading the article. Let’s talk this out and see if we aren’t able to persuade one another.

Let me conclude with this: Like it or not the western pharmaceutical industry at present is dominated by private enterprises driven by economic profits. If you think this is something that ought to change, such a transformation will be ponderously slow. In the mean time, there is something we can do within the system to promote justice on a global level. We can vote with our wallets.

Pharmaceutical companies invest tens of millions of dollars into alopecia research and the like, because we spend hundreds of millions on the products developed.

Stop. Stop spending money on hair loss treatments. Resist the advertising that tells you your must do something about your hair loss. Just stop. If the demand dries up, so will the research money. And perhaps, those dollars will be spent more justly.
