Possible PTH Based Treatments for Chemotherapy Induced Baldness

by Bald Man on April 1st, 2006

I came across this press release for IGI, Inc., a New Jersey based company that is “committed to growth by applying proprietary technologies to achieve cost-effective solutions for varied customer needs.” (Is that management double-speak or what?) Their technologies focus on methods of delivering skin care products, and their customer list includes big names such as Johnson & Johnson and Estee Lauder.

Here’s the point of relevence, from the press release:

IGI is also exploring the licensing of the topical PTH (7-34) compound for the prevention/treatment of chemotherapy induced-alopecia in patients undergoing chemotherapy.

PTH, that is parathyroid hormone, therapies may have the ability to reduce or reverse chemotherapy induced baldness. Or at least I’m pretty sure that’s what this article from the National Library of Medicine says.
