Object Lessons on Giving in School
Shoemaker Elementary second-grade teacher Rhonda Williams and her student, Abigail Starnes, got haircuts during class Monday, but it was more than just a simple trim.
More good stories, this time from Tennessee, where Ms. Williams is doing more than teaching her kids readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmetic. In class Monday teacher and student each received hair cuts in order to donate their ponytails to Locks of Love. It’s a wonderful object lesson in giving. “We tell our kids that we need to give back to others and to do our best,” said Shoemaker Elementary Principal Kathy Musick. “She (Williams) was going to demonstrate one way that we could give of ourselves, so that’s what she did.”
As for Abigail, she was inspired by her mom, Brenda, who has alopecia. “(I wanted to cut my hair) to help the children who don’t have any hair and for my mother.”
Way to go, Ms. Williams! Way to go, Abigail!
