New Segment on “Hair Restoration” to be Featured on Vision Media’s “Health & Medical Solutions” Television Program - PR.com
From PR.com comes word of a new Segment on “Hair Restoration” to be Featured on Vision Media’s “Health & Medical Solutions” Television Program.
Vision Media announced today that they will produce a segment on “Hair Restoration” as part of their “Health & Medical Solutions” television program. “Our program will cover the most serious health issues, as well as medical solutions like this one, which has gripped the American psyche,” explained Duane Merchant. “Male pattern baldness has been widely blamed for everything from job advancement prevention to lack of general self esteem, and all this in an incredibly competitive world” he added.
“New techniques from the highest echelons of medical expertise have generated solutions for men that were unfathomable just a few short years ago,” Duane Merchant said. “With this technology, baldness is now a choice that you can make in our society”, he added. Our modern culture heaps an enormous amount of importance on our personal appearance, and the pressure for both men and women. Now, Health & Medical Solutions will present the latest solutions, and their inspirations, to its viewing audience.
I’m disappointed. I expect commercial television to play on our insecurities and pander to our vanity. There is no pretense: their job is to separate us from our cash.
Perhaps foolishly, I expect better from public television. I expect it to pull society toward a better, higher standard, one that transcends vanity and highlights the wasted dollars spent on treatments for genetic hair loss.
Yes, I said waste. I understand genetic research, and I understand research into disease treatments with fewer side effects. Those aren’t what I’m talking about. I’m talking about dollars wasted on treatments for naturally occurring, non-life threatening male pattern baldness.

Hair loss due to medical conditions, accidents, trauma, burns, etc. aside, it is fact that Billions of dollars are spent worldwide on hair loss treatments. And, it is unfortunate that many these dollars are spent on non-medical, non-fda-approved treatments that simply don’t work. However, I would doubt that those people who are purchasing those therapies would consider the treatment of hair loss ‘a waste.’ It is a scientific fact that hair loss is one of the top most ‘unwanted signs of aging’ and has significant detrimental impact on one’s self-image and self-esteem (see research pioneered by Dr. TL Cash). If a treatment or procedure helps someone look better on the outside and feel better on the inside, I ask “why not?” I would highly doubt that if you chipped your front tooth, you would leave it alone and not have it fixed promptly by your local dentist. But yet, you don’t need that tooth to eat? So, is it a waste to have it fixed? I think not. Grooming, hygene, etc. is a natural process in humans (most humans, that is). And, if given a choice, most men and women would prefer NOT to lose their hair. It is my experience over the past ten years treating men and women with hair loss that the psychological impact of denying the fact that you are having hair loss or denying that the hair loss you are experiencing affects you can be extremely detrimental. And, on the flip-side, restoring one’s hair (or even just the process of maintaining what hair you have) can give yourself a significant long-lasting psycholoical boost.
I understand that not every couch-potato will get out to the gym one day and exercise. I also understand that not all men and women will seek to maintain, enhance or restore their own living and growing hair. However, for those that have the desire to, they can confidently know that safe and effective treatments exist.
Sincerely,
Dr. B.

Dr. Bauman,
Thanks for dropping by and commenting. I started saying lots in response, but I’ll drop it into a post of its own since it was getting quite wordy.
