Baldiness

Locks of Love

by Bald Man on March 7th, 2006

For many baldness is merely a genetic inconvenience whose only victim is our pride and the illusion that we will never age or change. For others, however, baldness can be a bit more. I’m thinking specifically of children.

Let’s face it: Men are expected to bald as they age. But children? I think most of us immediately begin running thru a list of medical conditions when we see a bald child or woman. And this is generally the case. Sure, a few voluntarily shave there head, but most do not.

So, let me introduce Locks of Love to those of you who have not heard of it. From their home page:

Locks of Love is non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children 18 years and younger suffering from long-term medical hair loss. We meet a unique need for children by using donated hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. The prostheses we provide help to restore self-esteem & confidence, enabling them to face the world and their peers.

So, three things to think about:

  1. If you’re a guy who’s worried about male pattern baldness, poke around their website. I hope it will help you find a healthy perspective about your own hair loss.
  2. If you’ve got long hair and are planning on going short, consider donating your discarded locks. It takes 6-10 ponytails of 10″ or more to make one hairpiece.
  3. Finally, keep them in mind for your charitable giving. Each hairpiece retails for $3,500 to $6,000.

    Travails of an Indian mother

    Hi

That was an interesting post. One could see your feeling in the post. Keep it coming

Though I may NOT agree to all what your said, your blog brought back lots of old memories and thoughts about my COUNTRY, INDIA, our society, friends and relatives, Jessica Lall et all

While we as world citizens think that Justice and equality are the most important cornertones of a civil society, does the ground reality reflect that ?

We feel that friendship, love, affection and above all our family is very important in shaping our lives and thoughts. To most of us, a mother, the epitome of love and sacrifice, plays and important role

But what happens when the same mother is denied justice in her own family ?

    Vinayak,
Thanks for the comment. I read through the story in your link: Further proof that greed and selfishness know no boundaries.

God’s best to you and yours.
