I Still Want To Live

This story of perseverance comes from Trinidad & Tobago Express. Claire Newallo beat cancer once only to suffer a recurrence. But she’s not giving in.

Two and a half years after being diagnosed, she’s back to chemo. Pounds dropped. Hair gone. But she’s coping as only Claire can–buying smaller dress sizes and bouncing back and forth between a conservative wig with grey bangs and striking, edgy baldness.

Encouragement and companionship seem to be essential for anyone going thru these sorts of trials. The worst can be endured, if only we have others to endure with us. That’s why I offer these sort of stories. Let me leave this pose with words from Claire:

“I still want to live. And I’m looking on the bright side. I’m very lucky for it to be happening this way. I don’t think there’s anybody I would have wanted to see or say sorry to or make peace with that I didn’t have a chance to meet. All this is part of the preparation for what’s on the other side. The angels will receive a very upbeat, happy me,” she ends.
