Baldiness

Gail Porter Supports FairTrade Fortnight

by Bald Man on March 13th, 2006

One of the blogs in my Bloglines feed is City Hippy, a collective blog “dedicated to exploring how to live a greener and more ethical life”. Sounds like something we should all be dedicated to exploring, if you ask me. Care for/abuse of nature is a moral issue.
What’s this got to do with baldness? Well, a week ago, I heard them mention the FairTrade Fortnight, currently occuring in the UK. Then I come across this article at ThisIsLondon about Gail Porter, a British television presenter. (That’s a host for those of us in the US.)

Gail Porter has been praised for refusing to hide her baldness from the public. Now she has again proved her determination by posing for this photograph.

Donning raw cotton as an impromptu wig, the TV presenter, who suffers from alopecia, shows her backing for Fairtrade products as a means of helping Third World countries trade their way out of poverty.

She is among stars photographed by Trevor Leighton posing playfully with a selection of fruit and raw materials to publicise the launch of Fairtrade Fortnight.(link)

In 2005, Porter began losing her hair as a result of alopecia.
