Beer Causes Baldness

Warm weather is just around the corner in my hemisphere, and that means outdoor sports, backyard barbeques, and a nice cold beer. If I may, the immortal words of Homer Simpson seem appropriate here: “Mmm… beer.”
Before you go tapping that keg, however, you should know that the six pack in your hand may cost you […]

I Recognize that Bald Silhouette!

I found these results from a study out of Stanford University interesting. It seems that silhouettes are pretty useful in determining a person’s general characteristics. “The scientists said male silhouettes were classified as male 83.3 percent of the time and female silhouettes were classified as female 55.7 percent of the time.” Why the discrepancy? Researchers […]

March Is Scams Awareness Month

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT), a bureau of the British government, is running “Scams Awareness Month” during March. And that unfortunately has more than a bit of relevance for Bald Men.
Unscrupulous people are keen to play on insecurities in an effort to separate you from your hard earned cash. One of the first posts […]

How Far Will You Go to Stop Male Pattern Baldness?

From Dr. Rassman at Balding Blog comes this helpful tid-bit:
Q: Would a vasectomy stop MPB?
A: No, but castration can stop MPB. Vasectomy does not alter any hormones. It only prevents any sperm from exiting.
Alas and alack! my hair is already gone; it is too late for me.

HAIR Helps Women with Alopecia

No, I’m not being obtuse, just a bit cheeky, I suppose. HAIR in this instance is an acronym: Help with Adjustment for Alopecia and Image Recovery, an unwieldy name that undoubtedly has its genesis in the US Congress for a computer imaging system developed at the University of Virginia Cancer Center.
“Between 47 and 58 percent […]

More on the HairMax Laser Comb

First things first…
$545 online
Yes, that’s right. more than $500 for the the gadget. While that’s a darn sight cheaper that a wig or surgery, it’s no small chunk of change. I’m pretty sure I could fine a better use for that kind of money.
Let’s move on…
Here’s a local news story on the HairMax Laser Comb.

Seth […]

CAELYX Combo Treatment For Ovarian Cancer Offers Low Incidence of Alopecia

Perhaps I’m still cleansing my soul for the Britney post; perhaps it’s just a news worthy time in the realm of cancer treatments. Regardless, the results of a phase II clinical trial for ovarian cancer treatment have been released, and the indications are positive.
From the press release:
Schering-Plough Corp. (NYSE: SGP) announced today the publication of […]

Hair Loss Treatment: Psychodermatology

And the lines between hard science and social science continue to blur. “Focusing on the boundary between psychiatry and dermatology, psychodermatologists (or “skin shrinks”) care for the skin and the soul, dovetailing traditional treatments like antibiotics or topical medications with alternative methods such as relaxation, biofeedback, self-hypnosis or psychotherapy.”
Seems we’re just beginning to understand the […]
