Meet Halle Parry

This is Halle. She’s seven. She’s in the second grade. She likes gymnastics and Andy Capp hot chips.
She also has alopecia universalis, and as a result has no body hair. That’s right, none. None on her head. None on her legs. No eyebrows. No eyelashes. Not even nose hairs. “Nobody was like me,” Halle said […]

Niagara Sisters Donate Hair

I know, technically Christmas is over, but these stories just keep coming. Meet Emily and Madelaine Dick of St. Catherines. The sisters, 12 and seven respectively, both made donations to Locks of Love for Christmas.
“I’ve always wanted to get my hair cut, and I figured I might as well do something good with it,” said […]

A New Year; A New Wig

Stories of kids giving their ponytails to Locks of Love just keep popping up. The latest is nine year old Katy McDaniel, a third-grader at St. Anne Catholic School near Beaumont. The 10-inch ponytail was one of the gifts she gave this Christmas.
Merry Christmas and way to go, Katy!

“Oh my God! My hair!”

I’m not sure why everyone seems to be getting hair cuts just as winter is beginning, but they are. Here’s hoping Shelby Pyle, Katelyn Rozankowski, Dolores Rosas and Chelsea Plishka each got a hat for Christmas. All four Marco Island middle school students donated their ponytails to Locks of Love.
But wait! There’s more!
Parents Yesenia Rodriguez […]

Little Angel Giving Locks

The kindness keeps on coming! Taylor Thompson of Binghamton is just seven years old, but she’s recently donated her ponytail to Locks of Love. Taylor, too, has a personal connection: both of her grandfathers were killed by cancer. But, there are more childlike concerns as well. From her lips to our ears: “I think a […]

Christmas Is Over, But the Giving Continues

I’m back from a festive Christmas Day, and am pleasantly greeted with the story of Russell Schoemer, a young man of 15 who has recently donated hair to Locks of Love. Like many, Russell has personal motivations for his actions; his grandfather, aunt and a family friend have all been killed by cancer. Another aunt […]

Object Lessons on Giving in School

Shoemaker Elementary second-grade teacher Rhonda Williams and her student, Abigail Starnes, got haircuts during class Monday, but it was more than just a simple trim.
More good stories, this time from Tennessee, where Ms. Williams is doing more than teaching her kids readin’, writin’, and ‘rithmetic. In class Monday teacher and student each received hair cuts […]

Ohio Kids Donating Hair

Christmas is only a week away, and I’ve got another nice story. This one comes from my very own Ohio, and tells of Katie and Megan Cochran, sisters who recently donated their ponytails to Locks of Love. In addition to the sisters. “I can’t imagine how it would feel” not to have hair, said Katie, […]

Cheyanne Ruff Donates Her Hair

“Following her heart and the example of her Aunt Chrissy, 7-year-old Cheyanne Ruff had 13 inches of her long, blond hair cut off Thanksgiving Day for Locks of Love.”
Roy Church has another story of kindness in the Wabash Plain Dealer.

Drawing Strength From Her Daughter

Jane Cohen has a lovely story in The Mirror about 8-year old Nikkita Gibson and her mom Louise, both of whom have alopecia. “I wish I had her courage. I still don’t feel comfortable going out without a wig.” Take the moment and read their story.
UPDATE: GMTV has another story focusing on Nikkita and Louise.
