Bald Guyz Taking It to the Street

by Bald Man on January 29th, 2007

Harold Brauner, founder of Bald Guyz is someone we’ve talked about before. Way back in March of 2006 we profiled Harold, and we reported on their partnership with Prime Time PR and Marketing in October.

Well, it seems as if that partnership is bearing fruit and drawing attention. Nichole L. Torres has a a piece out at Entrepreneur.com on “Audacious Advertising,” and Bald Guyz is the case in point.

You’re brave enough to start a business, but are you bold enough to shout about it? Entrepreneur Howard Brauner definitely knows how to boldly market his Bald Guyz line of grooming products. Specifically designed for bald men, Brauner’s product line was created to help them embrace, not hide, their baldness. A former comb-over devotee himself, Brauner, 49, knew his target market would respond to his in-your-face initiative, including “Bald is Beautiful Day” in New York City, a six-mile walk for proud bald men with the Bald Beauty street team of attractive women who pass out the product to potential customers. “We were saluting the bald guys along the way,” Brauner says.

Brauner - and the folks at Prime Time - seems to know that bald guys are, first and foremost, guys; so having attractive woman give out free product is never a bad place to start. Doing the afore mentioned at sporting events, such as the Super Bowl is another step in the right direction. Combining product awareness with a aggressive push to get shelf space in major retailers, such as Walgreens, Brauner expects sales to cross the million dollar mark this year. Not bad for a second year start-up from Jersey.

Now, if only their website wasn’t built with Flash…

I heard that you Tim Hardaway was going to be endorsing your product. As of today, I think that would not be a feasible arrangement, as I am sure there are a lot of bald gay men out there who would be offended to see him associated with your product.

I happen to be a bald man, but one who elects to go natural. So, while I may not be Bald Guys customer, I would bring any attention to my bald friends if I see Hardaway endorsing your product.

    Rob,
Just so you’re clear: I’m not affiliated with Bald Guyz and I don’t know the row between Tim Hardaway and gay men to which you seem to be referring.

I’m sorry my original e-mail went to Bald Man. I thought I was addressing Howard Brauner of BaldGuyz.

Surely everyone knows of Tim Hardaway’s “I hate gay people,” fiasco by now. As reported on Feb 16th in The Miami Herald, Hardaway who had been signed as a spokesman for BaldGuyz was dropped from association with the company, as quoted by Howard Brauner.

Again, my apology for this message going to someone who was unaware of Tim Hardaway.

    Rob

    Rob,
No problem… I’m just hearing about Mr. Hardaway now.

[…] As a recent commenter here, Rob Boyte, has already alluded, Tim Hardaway’s recent statement has led BaldGuyz to drop him as a spokesman. […]
