“Rapunzel” Has Lost Her Hair
At least she has in Karen Boettcher-Tate adaptation of the fairy tale. The Phipps Center in Hudson, Wisconsin is presenting this new twist on the classic Grimm Brothers story later this month. Things start off commonly enough… Rapunzel’s dad gets nabbed for petty larceny by a witch and pays the standard first-born fine. After that it gets a little odd.
When the German brothers wrote the classic tale almost 200 years ago, they may not have imagined that their heroine would have the last name Schwartzbuckle. Nor would they have guessed that eyeglasses and baldness would figure prominently in the story of her rescue. (source)
I suppose when you think about it, even that first bit is a little odd. No matter… “Rapunzel” runs April 26-29. Contact The Phipps ticket office at (715) 386-8409 or www.ThePhipps.org for more info.
